Standing for the Liberal Democrats
The Liberal Democrats look like a party with momentum. They are targeting Conservative-held parliamentary seats and mayoralties around the country.
Before you can apply for specific constituencies or mayoral candidacies, the Liberal Democrats first require you to undertake an assessment and join their ‘Approved List’. The whole process is laid out here on their website.
Prior to attending an in-person Approval Day, you will be asked to take a Policy Knowledge Assessment. This ranges across policy generally, as well as looking at the philosophical underpinnings of modern liberal thinking. College Green Group has many years experience of working with candidates and developing their specialist policy knowledge. We also work with multiple industry bodies, helping them to engage parliamentarians and ministers. All this supports you in developing the knowledge you need.
At the Approval Day, you will be assessed against six competencies: communication skills, leadership, strategic thinking and judgement, representing people, resilience, and values in action. We have prepared hundreds of candidates for this type of ‘competency-based’ assessment process. We work with you to ensure you can show the very best of yourself to the assessors when it matters.
Once approved, you will be able to apply for individual constituencies or Combined Authorities. At that point we can help you with research and to complete the application form to maximise your chances of success. If put through to the constituency long-list, you will be encouraged to engage with the members and we can help you with web and social media platforms to maximise your visibility.
Should you proceed to the final hustings meeting, you will have to make a speech and take questions from the members present. Over many years, we have helped clients write and deliver stand-out speeches and to be ready for any question that might be thrown at you.
