Head of Public Affairs

Role overview

The head of public affairs is responsible for ensuring that projects and campaigns are delivered on time and to the highest specification, ensuring clients are nurtured and looked after, and playing a key role in helping the consultancy grow and develop. This role assumes responsibility for ensuring professional client management; the creation and implementation of a robust annual business plan; and the recruitment, training and development of a team.

The ideal candidate will be

  • A confident and experienced public affairs professional with a strong record of effective lobbying
  • Experienced at growing and managing a pipeline of clients lobbying the UK Government, Devolved Administrations and the EU
  • Well connected, with an existing client network and the ability to build personal and company networks
  • Commercially and politically knowledgeable and comfortable working with senior politicians and business leaders
  • Digital, social media and technology savvy
    Self-motivated, self-driven, confident, reputationally sound
  • An excellent communicator
  • Confident in selling substantial value campaigns and lobbying services
  • Strongly analytical, with financial acumen and proven ability to manage to targets and budgets
  • Experienced at writing pitches, creating proposals and understanding and meeting/exceeding client objectives

Primary duties and capabilities

  • Cross-selling and up-selling products and/or services to existing clients, including cold calling, email marketing, creating strong presentations, and responding to RFPs
  • Creating and delivering integrated public affairs campaigns
  • Networking, with a view to building the College Green Group brand, reputation and relational reach to politicians and other key stakeholders, such as prospective clients and referrers of business
  • Delivering results against sales targets
  • Any other duties as reasonably required by a member of the SMT

Public Affairs Business Development Manager

Role overview

The business development manager is the primary lead generator and business closer for College Green Group, working across a range of products and services, with a focus on developing our public affairs client base. They will bring existing contacts and strategies to quickly build a new business pipeline and extend our network and opportunities. We are looking for someone innovative and with established connections.

This role has a strategic element – you will have responsibility for delivering the commercial growth strategy for College Green Group and for helping to develop the business and build our reputation. The immediate focus will be to deliver on ambitious revenue targets and create a solid basis for sustainable growth for our direct UK lobbying team.

The ideal candidate will be

PLG Account Manager

Role overview

College Green Group acts as the Secretariat for several new Parliamentary Liaison Groups (PLGs). We are looking for a team member to help grow our existing PLGs and lead in the establishment of new groups. You must have excellent knowledge of the workings of lobbying groups and the British political system. You will serve as the primary point of contact on a day to day basis for PLG stakeholders, and will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of services against briefs and plans. You will be focused on delivering results for the stakeholders in line with contractual agreements, within allocated timeframes and budgets.

Primary responsibilities

  • Building and managing relationships with key stakeholders/clients
  • Identifying and engaging new stakeholders
  • Media relations
  • Monitoring parliamentary proceedings to identify key opportunities for legislative and spoken interventions
  • Completing PLG reports to a high standard of integrity, accuracy, content and visual presentation
  • Writing and production of policy-focused briefings
  • Organising PLGs events (including AGMs and roundtables both virtual and in person)
  • Engagement of Parliamentarians
  • Responsibility for managing the PLG budget and following agreed accounting procedure and record-keeping
  • Working closely with colleagues at all stages of the client journey, from researching prospective stakeholders and sectors, and ensuring continued client satisfaction and delivery of results
  • Ability to lead meetings, including with senior politicians and senior business leaders, and to ensure that meetings are productive and clearly documented with action points and timeframes
  • A good working knowledge of the main social media networks and platforms for business and political campaigns
  • Undertaking research tasks to a consistently high standard

Account Executive / Campaign Executive

College Green Group account executives/campaign executives (AEs/CEs) are reliable, motivated, multi-skilled, client facing team members who (alongside campaign managers/account managers) serve as a point of contact on a day to day basis for our clients, and are responsible to help deliver services and results against briefs and plans. They are focused on delivering tactical work for clients, efficiently and within timeframes and budgets. They ordinarily work across multiple clients and campaigns.

Primary duties and capabilities

Managing client relationships, campaigns and projects on a day to day basis, in line with contractual agreements – adhering to College Green Group principles, delivering results and working with/reporting to a senior team member across each client relationship, campaign or project. Responsible for:
  • Managing workloads proactively (including managing up)
  • Helping to manage client expectations
  • Providing internal and external progress updates (which may include updating software/CRM systems, contact/meeting reports, rolling notes, formal updates and presentations)
  • Clearly briefing and working with other team members
  • Demonstrating ability to work unaided where required
  • Ability to contribute to client meetings and ensure that they are productive and clearly documented with action points and timeframes
  • Completing project reports to a high standard
  • A working knowledge of the main social media networks and platforms for business and political campaigns (at present, LinkedIn, Facebook, twitter, Instagram and YouTube)
  • Undertaking research tasks to a consistently high standard
  • Taking responsibility for preparing thorough and timely handover notes when going on holiday, and communicating them clearly to relevant team members
  • Any other duties as reasonably required by colleagues (in consultation with line manager and/or SMT)
